Another Letter From Mount Olympus!

September 30th, 2009 by Kevin

Yeah!!! Another letter from God!!! Let\’s read it together!

Kevin –

Waaaasssssuuuppp!!

The cavalry is here — and they\’re in white coats and scrubs:

Dude I realize Robert Byrd is sick but should the Democrats really be actively recruiting KKK members??  Especially since you guys play the race card every day??

More than a half a million doctors and millions of nurses are joining forces to help pass real health reform.

Are these the same doctors Obama was accusing of hacking off limbs and stealing tonsils purely for financial profit??

Americans listen to their nurses and doctors when it comes to health reform — and for good reason.

Sure we do.  I mean we\’re not gonna listen to Obama on it.  He\’s fucked up everything he has touched.  Which is bad enough when it\’s GM, if it\’s my liver….well I\’d really prefer to slowly drink that to death, rather than let Obama kill it instantly

If we can help them amplify their voices, it\’ll be a huge boost to our campaign for change.

Not sure that\’s necessary.  I saw lots of them protesting ObamaCare at TownHalls, and they usually have microphones at those, so amplification is already handled.

So we\’re working on a new television ad featuring their voices explaining why doctors and nurses so strongly support President Obama\’s plan — and asking Congress to pass it. We\’ll run the ad in key states and districts all around the country to show folks where health professionals stand, cut through the spin, and build even greater support for reform.

Yeah, that sounds like a brilliant plan, if your goal is to defeat ObamaCare.  Because every time you put out another plea via the media, your polls drop another couple points.

But to produce and air the new ad before the Senate starts debating a final bill, we\’ll need to raise $300,000 by Thursday. Please donate $5 right away.

\"Please
Didn\’t Obama claim that ObamaCare would save like 83 Kajillion dollars??  Surely you can spare $300,000 for that?  Or just ask your doctor buddies to hack of a couple extra hands, that should generate the necessary cash right?? I mean according to you they are already doing that and they support this plan right?

The American Medical Association, Doctors for America, and a dozen other physicians groups representing 500,000 doctors are endorsing reform. So are the American Nurses Association and other organizations representing millions of nurses.

The organizations might.  The members apparently don\’t if polling is any indication.

They\’re speaking out because they see the shortcomings of our health care system firsthand, every day: patients denied the care they prescribe, families losing access to their doctors, and a system that forces them to spend more time with paperwork and less time with patients.

Yeah and ALL of that could be immediatly solved WITHOUT ObamaCare for no additional cost.

These voices need to be heard — with so much deception out there clouding the debate, it\’s critical that medical professionals are able to focus the country on the simple fact that health reform is good medicine.

Most of the deception seems to be coming from Obama.  All those heart rending stories of tragedies striking Americans during his health care address to Congress turned out to be false.  The whole doctors hacking of limbs for profit obviously is wrong.  Actually you know what, just read the summary of his speech.  Too many lies to list here.

But the final congressional committee could vote on their reform bill as early as Wednesday — and debate on final legislation could start by the end of the week. So if we\’re going to help make these doctors and nurses\’ voices heard, we\’ll need to do it right now. Can you chip in $5 or more to help get our ad on the air?

https://donate.barackobama.com/HealthAd

Wait a second, what about the voices of the American people???  Why are you listening to special interests instead of the American people?

Thanks,

Mitch

CD2 Gubernatorial Candidate Debate

September 29th, 2009 by Kevin

Attended CD2\’s Gubernatorial Candidate debate tonite, and while I\’ve met/talked to most of the candidates one-on-one, it was interesting to see how they handled the group format.  While there was nothing wrong with the event and the organizers did a great job, unfortunately at this stage of the game, the group format isn\’t always the most informative.   Let\’s face it, all of them are fairly mainstream conservatives and there aren\’t going to differ on many, if any, of the issues.  This is exactly what happened on many of the questions.  If not for the politician\’s inate ability to turn a one word answer into a 1000 word diatribe, the whole debate would have been over within 15 minutes.

At this stage of the game in order for things to get informative or interesting, discussion has to inevitably fall into one of two categories.

Policy Hell

This is both the most interesting and frequently most boring category.  This is also where an inexperienced candidate gets bogged down in details.  You end up losing most of the audience and the few that are still paying attention are probably more updated on the details than the candidate is.  In the end the discussions drives way off the beaten path into the rhubarb.

Which isn\’t to say it\’s necessarily bad.  For example, the 65461 Minnesotans with carry permits have been very disappointed in the Pawlenty administration, specifically Department of Public Safety Commissioner Michael Campion, for their inability to fulfill their promise to uphold the law regarding the reciprocity issue.  So many of those 65K carry permit holders hold a great deal of animosity towards Pawlenty, and by extension Republicans, and have withheld their support.  They\’re going to want to hear that the next Republican isn\’t going to pull the same idiocy.

Now you start that conversation and most of the audience isn\’t going to have a clue what you\’re talking about.  And even if you have a coherent answer, you\’re debating with a guy that lives and breathes this stuff.  On the other hand, if you can pull off having that conversation without losing the rest of the audience, heh, you just convinced 65K voters to vote for you.

Presentation

When the menu is the same at every restaurant, it comes down to presentation (and cost but that doesn\’t work as well in my analogy).  If we all agree on the ideas and changes that need to be made, it comes down to how you get things done.  Which candidate can best present out ideas?  Which candidate can best present them in a way that appeals to the Average Joe.  Which candidate can generate the funds to get that message out in an effective way?

This I think is where most of the discussion of candidates needs to revolve around.  Even if you very generally look at each candidate through this lense, you\’ll find that our nine candidate field, pretty much boils down to four \”serious\” candidates.*  If you don\’t have the ability to raise millions in campaign funds, and then use that money to effectively deliver our message to the masses, you\’re just taking up space.  And by effectively deliver, I mean in a manner other than what we\’ve been doing.

Hopefully future events can stick to these areas of differentiation, rather than engage in a lot of preaching to the choir.

*No I\’m not going to name the four.  I\’m trying to keep it productive rather that get in a pissing match with each candidates supporters.

School Responds To Anger Over Obama Propaganda Song

September 24th, 2009 by Kevin

Most everyone has seen the latest video of schoolchildren being brainwashed with Obama propaganda.  It\’s not so much that they are singing about a President.  In fact talking a President as an upstanding decent guy and what he\’s doing is an important part of civics, and subject that should be taught more often in school.

The problem lies in the details.  These are second graders, whose ability to discern propaganda from a legitimate civics lessons is less than fully developed.  Not to mention this isn\’t a normal civics lesson.  With phrases like \”Jesus loves the little children\”, except using Obama in place of Jesus.  Or even the \”All are equal in his sight\”, with \”in his sight\” being almost exclusively used in a religious context, referring to an omniscient being. The problem is the religious worship of a simple man, that has blown into a full blown personality cult.  That\’s offensive to a lot of people because personality cults always have an unhappy ending.  Well known examples including Adolf Hitler, Kim Jong-Il, Charles Manson and David Koresh.

So people are rightly upset and voicing their displeasure, and it was only a matter of time before the school district responded.  They have

Response to Unauthorized Video of Class Activity
September 24, 2009

Today we became aware of a video that was placed on the internet which has been reported in the media. The video is of a class of students singing a song about President Obama. The activity took place during Black History Month in 2009, which is recognized each February to honor the contributions of African Americans to our country. Our curriculum studies, honors and recognizes those who serve our country. The recording and distribution of the class activity were unauthorized.

Yeah, the problem is not brainwashing children.  It\’s not the deity worship of a political figure.  It\’s not the forcing of a personality cult upon children.  No the problem is that it was videotaped and distributed!!!

What is it about liberals getting caught with their hand in the proverbial cookie jar?  Just like ACORN before them, when caught doing an outrageous act, their response is not to apologize and promise to change, it\’s to attack the messenger.  How dare you let people know how offensive we are!??!?

So much for transparency being a liberal virtue.

That Sound You Hear…

September 24th, 2009 by Kevin

….is Israel giggling their collective ass off.

Iran\’s sole Simorgh AWACS aircraft was lost during a military parade Sept. 22, one of two Iranian military aircraft that crashed in Tehran while participating in a display to mark the anniversary of the start of the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq War.

The Simorgh collided with one of the Air Force\’s Northrop F-5E Tiger II fighters over the area of the Imam Khomeyni Shrine, southern Tehran. According to eyewitnesses, the crash occurred immediately after the parade. Apparently, no mayday call was issued.

AWACS aircraft are absolutely critical to any airborne operation.  They are the brain of any such operation and act as a force multiplier by making it\’s fellow aircraft more effective by coordinating their activities and applying the correct resources where they can be used best.  They also make it difficult for enemy aircraft to go undetected and are then able to vector friendly aircraft in to intercept them.  While airborne operations can be launched without them, their absence can be a game-changer.

As a result Israeli generals have got to be dancing in the streets at this news.  While it was fairly ancient version of an AWACS aircraft, it was still there.  It\’s lose greatly reduces the ability of Iranian aircraft to effectively counter an Israeli attack. It\’s probably time for the Iranian\’s to start seriously sweating.

The Source Of Stupidity

September 24th, 2009 by Kevin

For some reason after I graduated college and got a good job, I decided that it might make sense to go back to grad school and go for my Masters, which I finally completed after two years.  I learned a lot of various concepts during that time, but probably the thing that sticks with me most is that college makes you stupid.  Perfect example of what I\’m talking about:

New Government Directive : Eat Your Vegetables Or Go To Your Room

September 23rd, 2009 by Kevin

I think I preferred it back when I didn\’t know how government official felt about the citizens of the country.

“The American public…just like your teenage kids, aren’t acting in a way that they should act,” [Secretary of Energy] Dr. Chu said. “The American public has to really understand in their core how important this issue is.”

Ok first of all let\’s covered the basics.  This is America buddy, and everyone has the freedom to act like a petulant child if they damn well please.  Some have even made a career of it.

Of course the administration is claiming he didn\’t mean citizens, but rather he was talking about teenage kids.  Just for shits&giggles let\’s say we accept that half-assed spin.  Aren\’t acting the way they should act?? You seem to have a fundamental misunderstanding of the role of government in America.  See we fight this minor skirmish at least a week ago so we weren\’t ruled by a monarchy.  In other words the government is not our parent.  We are citizens, not subjects. So you can take your opinion of how ANYONE should act and shove it sideways up into uncomfortable places.

I shouldn\’t be too harsh though, perhaps you\’re mentally retarded and was having a bad day.  Heh, we all have bad days, and the mental disorder probably wasn\’t your fault, although you probably could have cut back on eating paint chips.  So let\’s just move on to the point you were very ineptly trying to make, the whole climate change bullshit.

The problem is the \”solutions\” you propose are incredibly expensive, and you offer no proof that they would even begin to address the problem.  And the problem by the way may not even be a problem, as the science on that is far from settled.  We have no idea what\’s even happening for sure, and even if we didn\’t we don\’t know it\’s caused by mankind.  And even if it\’s caused by mankind we don\’t know we can do anything about it, especially in a way that doesn\’t destroy every standard of living.

And as far as how important this issue is, I have a feeling that the American public would take this more seriously if those that claim we should act like they take it seriously.  Take whatever example you want.  Al Gore using 10x the energy of the average household.  Or during the winter, Obama cranking up the thermostat in his office warm enough to grow orchids.  Or environmental activists not throwing extravagant conventions that involve members flying private jets from all corners of the world.

In short, save the lecture Dad.

Irony…

September 23rd, 2009 by Kevin

Because there is nothing like actors earning tens of millions making shitty movies complaining about business men making money to ring your bullshit detector.  And because I can\’t resist….

Smart Diplomacy? It\’s Settle For Competent

September 22nd, 2009 by Kevin

I\’m not sure anyone really knew what Obama meant by \”smart diplomacy\” during the campaign.  At the time it seemed mostly like a way to take another poke at the whole \”Bush is stupid\” meme that infected the left for the past eight years.  Now that choice of words seems to be coming back to haunt him.

I mean sure we can easily poke fun about him buying copies of his own speeches for foreign letters.  Or giving a wrongly spelled \”reset\” button to another foreign leaders.  Or at the other end of the extreme, angering close allies like Poland by leaving them at the mercy of the Russians on the anniversary of the Soviets invading Poland.  But really the holy grail of dumb diplomacy is screwing up the current centerpiece of US foreign policy…..Afghanistan.

When asked if he\’d be willing to deploy more troops to Afghanistan:

I\’m not interested in just being in Afghanistan for the sake of being in Afghanistan or saving face or, in some way— you know, sending a message that America— is here for— for the duration.

Yeah, that sounds all responsible and all that and I\’m sure it makes a great soundbite but the reality is that statements like that are exactly part of the problem.  According to our own generals:

The result has been a \”crisis of confidence among Afghans,\” he writes. \”Further, a perception that our resolve is uncertain makes Afghans reluctant to align with us against the insurgents.\”

Afghans are unwilling to assist us in any way or defy terrorists if they think we\’re just gonna be tucking tail and leaving soon.  And comments about us not necessarily sticking around isn\’t helping the situation.  In fact they help perpetuate the same crisis that he\’s trying to solve.

Words have meaning and while Obama loves to pretend to be the oh so intelligent statesman, in reality he\’s proven to be arrogant, ignorant and downright stupid in his efforts at diplomacy.  Smart diplomacy? Right now I\’d settle for competent.

I Live In A Town Of Geniuses

September 17th, 2009 by Kevin

Just a entry from one of our recent police blotters….

Theft. A man called police to report his wallet was stolen by a cab driver who drove him home from a bar. As the taxi pulled up to his house he told the driver he would have to go inside to get the money to pay him. The taxi driver reportedly told him the only way he would allow that would be if he left his wallet with him and he would get the wallet back when he returned with the money. He said he then went into his house, used the bathroom, and got hungry and decided to make himself something to eat. After eating he went back outside and the taxi was gone.

No shit really?

I mean how long can Ramen take??
