Old people don’t need companionship. They need to be isolated and studied so it can be determined what nutrients they have we can harvest.

Don\’t Count Your Immigrants Before They Hatch

April 9th, 2009 by Kevin

With news that Obama intends on pursuing amnesty for illegal immigrants this session, there has been quite a bit of opining from all corners.  Amongst the border enforcement groups, the concensus seems to be that the amnesty won\’t pass and Pelosi, Reid and Obama know this but they\’re doing it anyway to satisfy their Hispanic supporters.

There is some validity to what they\’re saying, but I\’m not certain I\’d be quite so positive about that.  Sure if you try to make a direct comparison between this year and previous years, there are some distinct positives this time around.  The bill is worse then ever, with even more of the aspects that really angered people last time around.  And with a bad economy it makes even less sense to suddenly import millions more workers.

On the other hand, the environment is a lot different.  The public is still fatigued from the election that never ended, as evidenced by Obama\’s continued compaigning.  Plus with a down economy and a new bailout announced every week, what little attention the public is offering is concentrated exclusively on the economy.  It\’s quite possible that by pushing amnesty and an open border agenda now, it could get through in a fairly stealthy manner.

The only reason amnesty didn\’t pass last time, is because the public literally melted the Capitol switchboards with the massive number of calls.  Without the public outcry putting pressure on lawmakers it\’s very likely some of the ones that voted against amnesty last time, may feel free to vote for it this time.

There are good reasons to remain positive, but it\’s not time to declare victory yet.  Let\’s calm down and let our legislators know we\’re paying attention, so we don\’t even have to fight this battle this session.

You are correct on all counts, and we ought to do everything we can, including “literally” melting the switchboards again, if that’s what it takes and it probably does. I do think, though, that you underestimate one positive factor in all of this. Democrats and liberals, remember, get full credit for their INTENTIONS with legislation, not for what it actually does, and not even for actually passing it into law. They can thus have their cake and eat it, too, just by bringing it up and letting a few safe-seat Dems vote with those EEEEVIL Republicans to kill it.
