I just want us to use our common sense and keep the guy around one more week before throwing him under the bus. I would think that the American principle of "innocent until proven guilty" ought to hold some sway here. I'm tired of the Democrats gleefully pinning some supposed transgression on a Republican, even if it's a lie, and then getting US to string the guy up without a second glance. I do not like being a "hit squad" for the Dems and their political advantage. Notice how, once they get one Republican, they go after another the same way? But the idea that you would punish yourself politically just to live by those standards is one of those odd inclinations that makes us "the stupid party." You certainly don't see Democrats doing it, and that gives them a political advantage. Massive personal failings (apparently) do not mean he was a bad Republican in terms of policy, or voting record. I am certain that he was FAR better than any Democrat in that regard. Were I Alaskan, I would vote for the guy and keep the seat in Republican hands, then appoint a Republican to replace him (the Governor, you may recall, is a Republican) if and when that conviction is upheld.
