Isn’t that “I approve this message” thing getting a bit irksome? I mean, really, are we infants that have to be told whom the ad favors? Are we incapable of reading the disclaimer at the end telling us who paid for it?

Yes it’s annoying….but it’s also required.
Asking the government to make sense is like….well, asking the government to make sense.

Well, it would be simply annoying except that it is required, and is a limit on free speech. Surely those few seconds could have been used to say something more useful.

Yeah, but by that same token phrases like “above my paygrade”, “paying taxes is patriotic” and “bitter, clinging to their guns” also only take a few seconds.
