Name That City

Ok we’re playing a game here….name that city. I’ll describe you guess.
This city has a history of violence and corruption at the highest levels of leadership. Recently it’s leadership has tried to impose it’s will upon it’s citizens, going so far as to attempt to disarm all it’s citizens. Despite that, crime and violence is so prevalent in this city it’s name is virtually synonymous with it. In fact, what passes for law enforcement in this city has gone so far as to seal off parts of the city. Checkpoints will be used to blockade certain parts of the city and people will be refused entry if they don’t meet certain criteria. US politicians at the highest levels have visited the city frequently, and while these visits make the news, they’ve done little to quell the violence and tyrannical leadership it’s citizens suffer under.
What city am I referring to??
Imagine that….the capital of the land of the free and police are sealing off neighborhoods.
