Reactions To The New Hampshire Debate

January 6th, 2008 by Kevin

Just a few thoughts on each candidate for the debate.

First the GOP…

Huckabee : Looked scared and paranoid, and mostly just happy that people weren\’t ganging up on him.

Ron Paul : Still insane and clearly ignorant of the world around him (no more spam please, paulbots).

Romney : Got his ass kicked eight different ways in this debate

McCain : Did most of the above mentioned ass-kicking. Amusing to me, but some people might be turned off by the negativity. Also he has NOT (and let me repeat that NOT) gotten the message on immigration.

Giuliani : Good on foreign policy, horrible on immigration. Pretty lackluster overall.

Thompson : Calm, cool, collected, thoughtful. Lots of funny subtle barbs at other opponents. Felt like a fireside chat.

Winner : Clearly Thompson, I don\’t think anyone else came close. Huckabee maybe got second place just for hiding in the corner and not taken any major hits. Giuliani probably third.

Now the Democrats….

Obama : Had a very \”above it all\” attitude, and came across as very well-spoken.  Of course that is his schtick.

Richardson : Pleading for everyone to basically have a group hug was about his only noticeable contribution.

Clinton : Came across as actually fairly competent on foreign policy, perhaps because she basically adopted the \”You\’re either with us, or against us\” Bush policy.  But in the name of all that is holy, PLEASE, stop laughing….the portals of hell open a little further every time you do.

Edwards : I dunno what it is, but something in his eyes makes me feel like I\’m a 4-year-old being lectured by my dad every time he opens his mouth.

Winner :

Sidenote : When the Democrats were talking about essentially invading Pakistan to attack Al Qaeda, anyone else half-expecting to see Ron Paul run out on stage blathering about how evil America is for even considering that???

I think we’re starting to see what may be Thompson’s real strength in the campaign. That is that he doesn’t have to make any political calculations before answering a question, he simply speaks to the commonsense conservative principles involved. I would think it a tactic best suited to this marathon campaign, where every utterance can be cross-checked with every previous one. His consistency (and common sense) should start to stand out.

How is it that the only one who SOUNDS ok is the one that you’re voting for, Kevin? I think you’re prejudiced. I don’t believe that Ron Paul is insane, but the more he is, the better. Sane people are boring.

  3. Kevin Says:

    Yes Ron Paul is insane.

Regarding Fred, if you watched the debate you saw it. And having read other pundits, they mostly agree. Fred did very well, everyone else performed at various levels of “suck”.

And yes I am biased, I’ve never denied that.

I still believe the great political philosopher Douglas Adams who said that wanting a job like the presidency is proof of insanity, which ought to automatically disqualify someone from holding the position.

Let me re-iterate my last point:
    Sane people are boring.
