Election Day

November 6th, 2007 by Kevin

Today is Election Day, remember to get out and vote.*

Personally, I have to admit, I’m a bit lost.  For what is probably the first time in record history, my school district is not asking for yet another levy or referendum or just plain crying out “Give Us Money! It’s For The Children You Insensitive Dolt!“.  For as long as I can remember, the school district demanding more money as the solution to all of Western Civilization’s problems, was as constant as the setting of the sun, the sky being blue and Al Franken not being funny.

Today I step forward into a brave new world.  And while I’m positive that the district will soon provide me something else to vote “No“** on, I’m enjoying the moment.

* Actually I only say that because it’s the thing you’re supposed to say.  In reality, I would prefer if most of you stay home, which thankfully you usually do.  Because most of you have no idea what you’re voting for and base your votes more on how someone’s hair looks than their views.  While you certainly have the right to vote, I wish you wouldn’t.  Just as people have the ability to breed, many of them probably shouldn’t.  For supporting evidence of this, I refer you to any given episode of Cops.

** Actually I don’t just vote “No“, I typically vote “Hell No!” but I’ve been told I’m not allowed to alter the ballots any more.

I feel the same way about other people voting. I made the mistake of saying it out loud one time to a colleague and I think I may have been called the C word. (Commie, not conservative.)

You must learn patience. Remember that the District promised faithfully that, if we passed their 10-year levy they wouldn’t ask for more for 5 years. Remember that for the last 20 years, every ten-year levy in this District has been overspent in 5 years or less. Look at their official “projections” of revenue and spending, and you will see them going broke somewhere between 2010 and 2012 (I haven’t seen the latest numbers, it has probably changed), but the levy is supposed to “last” until 2017.
