DREAM Act Is On….

Today the Senate will be debate amendments to The National Defense Authorization Act H.R. 1585, this includes the DREAM Act amendment S.A. 2237. Despite a majority of the American public consistently disagreeing with this bill, which is why it has consistently failed to see the light of day, it’s now being taken seriously on capital hill.
What’s so bad about this bill??
Well for one it provides in-state tuition for illegal aliens at public universities. We don’t even provide in-state tuition to most American citizens from other states. In a nutshell, you are giving foreign students an advantage over American students, and putting illegal aliens on a fast track to citizenship over legal aliens who have played by the rules.
In addition, this is basically a backdoor amnesty for millions of illegal alien. Any illegal alien can walk into a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services office and declare that he is eligible. For example, a 45-year-old can claim that he illegally entered the United States 30 years ago at the age of 15. There is no requirement that the alien prove that he entered the United States at the claimed time by providing particular documents. The DREAM Act’s Section 4(a) merely requires him to “demonstrate” that he is eligible-which in practice could mean simply making a sworn statement to that effect. Thus, it is an invitation for just about every illegal alien to fraudulently claim the amnesty.
This is basically a transparent attempt to pass the amnesty that the public roundly rejected this last summer. My fear is that they will succeed. Our only chance to is let our Senate know once again, that this amnesty is not what we want.
You can do your part by calling your Senator, who at this very moment could be voting for this horrible amendment.

It is unfortunate to continue to read blogs such as these. It is obvious that you do not know anyone who would be directly affected by the passing of the DREAM Act bill. People tend to not care about what doesn’t affect them. Not just anyone can walk into an office and say they have been here since they were fifteen without legal proof. There are endless ways to prove them wrong. I don’t think high schools, junior highs or elementary schools just randomly make up transcripts for anyone who asks. This bill asks for legitimate proof. I know because I would be one directly affected by it. I have been since I was 8 and am now 26. I attended elementary, junior high, high school and even have my Bachelor’s degree. I can be here but I can’t work because of the way I came into the country, which was by no way my choice. I love it here and have always been a good citizen. I am patiently waiting for the chance to work here and continue to be denied it by those who believe such as you. Who can’t look past their own lives and are quick to call everything an amnesty when it is not. This bill allows studious and good obiding immigrants that live in this country whether it be illegally or legally and without permission to work to finally plan and work for their future. I hope one day you meet someone who is in my situation and realize just how unfair it is.

Monica, you obviously haven’t even read the bill as it’s clear you have no idea what is in it.
And if you are here illegally I don’t have any sympathy for you. You’re a criminal, pure and simple.
If you truly loved this country you would respect our laws enough to go home and come in the legal way. Just like every legal immigrants before you.
Nobody said life was fair. Even in America.
