True North Goes Live At Midnight

August 31st, 2007 by Kevin

UPDATE : True North is live! Stop by and check us out.

True NorthTonite at midnight True North goes live, stop by to check it out. We’ve put alot of work into it and it should be pretty fun to see how it works out. I don’t think it’s so much of whether it’s going to be a success, but how much of a success. Especially when you consider the caliber of people we have on board.

They’ve been rather intelligent in their choice of people, with the exception of asking me to come on board and pen a few articles with my poison pen. Although, to their credit they’ve also asked me to help out behind the scenes on the technical side, which to their benefit has kept me too busy to write much of anything anywhere, here or there.

Tonite will be hectic as we cram in the final details to prepare for tomorrow’s launch, specially since by tonite I will be entrusted with the care of one half of the MN Militias canine division. Nevertheless this venture certainly seems like it’s going to be alot of fun and it’s exciting to think were we could take it.

just an FYI… as someone who has used Joomla for the last few years and while i’m excited for 1.5 to finally be released… deploying a live site using the 1.5 Release Candidate is a bad idea…

    don’t say i didn’t warn you

Congratulations, kudos, and thanks. Nice job on the web site, sterling credentials all around (except for AAA’s usual illiteracy, even under an alias), but (and you knew there would be a but) let me be bitterly frank: I’m a bit disappointed. It seems to be just what it claims it is not– just another blog. A good one, but I wanted more.

I don’t need a blog to tell me what my “first principles” are. I don’t even (though some would) need someone to tell me how to apply, in policy, those principles, nor how to defend those policy choices. No, what I was hoping for was a sort of “clearing house” for ideas on how to ADVANCE those principles in the rough world of politics, by BEING partisan above all else, and doing it BETTER (or worse, depending on your POV) than those (epithet deleted) Democrats.

For example, I see one article here already bemoaning Pawlenty’s “lack of spine” for suggesting he might consider a 5-cent hike in the gas tax. That’s not what we need. We need somebody to talk about what a brilliant political ploy it was, and how can we assist the Gov. in pulling it off. If you want to propose better solutions for the real problem as well, feel free; that’s helpful.

In short, call it a proposed subtitle for TN: “How to crush the Democrats at every opportunity, and why your future depends on it.” (H/T HH)

We welcome your input, because really you are part of the audience we’re trying most to reach. I’ve already forwarded this to some of the other leading members and hopefully we can accomodate your wishes.

However, one area where I think we might be able to start to live up to your expectations is our Election Coverage area, where we hope to provide information on how to best mobilize for conservative candidates.

Now that I think about it, I can think of another way in which you can be helpful. That is, I’ve said for a long time that the GOP brand has to be recognized as people’s favorite, and that the way we do that is to stress that the GOP applies “common sense to common knowledge.” Where blogs can be helpful is in CREATING that common knowledge– making people realize that they already know how to solve problems and don’t need some slick-talking wacko liberal telling them something different. For example, most people know you don’t have to raise taxes to rebuild a bridge that’s already paid for.

Just one other caveat: If we do get into the areas of strategy and tactics that I would like to see, and believe strongly is needed, I think you’re going to have to enable the login feature and restrict participation to those who truly have the GOP’s best interests at heart.
