What we have to pressure the GOP pols to do is hold the line on any spending that isn't roadwork. In the game of public relations that will be a tenable position, "No, we can't pay for the light rail right now because we need to focus our efforts on fixing bridges." With this strategy perhaps the damage won't be too bad. Getting a tax hike imposed on us is a foregone conclusion.
