He Just Doesn\’t Take A Hint

June 12th, 2007 by Kevin

Note : Damn It! I thought I was done with this f-ing topic…

While on his European tour, Bush has been so impressed with Europe\’s immigration problems, he\’s anxious to come back to the US and cause the same problems here. And that\’s exactly what he\’s planning on doing. On Tuesday, President Bush will be back in town and he\’s going to pressure harrass threaten talk with key Republican Senators in order to get them to support his bid for amnesty.

Despite overwhelming feedback from the public. Despite opinion polls that show that only 23% of the public supports this. Despite losing cloture twice in the Senate, Bush is just determined to get this thing passed. And from the sounds of it, part of the reason is because he actually believes this is an issue that will rebound his sagging poll numbers.

Now whether his pleas to Republican Senators will fall on deaf ears or not is uncertain. Actually the key is whether Harry Reid will bring it back to the floor. His actual support of this bill has always been in dispute. Some evidence supports he just wanted to use this as a wedge in the Republican Party, other evidence seems to suggest that he actually supports such an amnesty bill.

But how many Republicans he can sway is also very much in doubt. Without question, many of the Republicans who voted against this bill (such as Coleman) really supported it but voted against it because the rest of the party was and why take a hazardous political move for no benefit?

But now with a full court press by the White House, it is not certain if his political hissy-fit will provide cover for some Republicans to change sides. And it does make one wonder if he had put half this much effort into countless other issues, perhaps he might find the base somewhat more open to discussion.

Ideally we should simply make this issue a moot point. But to do that we need to call our Senators TODAY!! Let them know that President Bush does not represent the American people on this issue and that you want them to continue to oppose S. 1348, the amnesty bill.

I hate to do this to you already, but I\’d rather this be an over-reaction on my part, than to put us all through the hell of the last couple weeks all over again. Call your Republican Senator(s) today….you can find ALL the numbers below the fold, otherwise Minnesotans, you can call Coleman\’s office at 202-224-5641.

Talking points:

- President Bush has it wrong on immigration and doesn\’t reflect your views
- The Senate had it right when they defeated this bill on the floor
- We don\’t want amnesty, we want enforcement, and this bill only provides amnesty.
- Do not support S. 1348 if it comes up again
- You will not support any Senator who votes for this bill.
