Amnesty To Return This Week

On Tuesday, the Senate will continue working on the Energy bill, with the hopes of completing it so they can continue on the immigration amnesty bill by Wednesday. As RedState has noted, the timing is rather suspect as this sets them up for a vote possibly as early as Friday, which is when one of the leading opponents of this bill is going to be attending a fundraiser with President Bush. Plus this once again puts the bill up against a holiday deadline, which allows Sen. Reid to threaten to extend deliberations into their holiday time at home, which was part of the game plan last time around. And while it is said that history repeats itself, it appears absolutely asinine that it repeats itself so quickly.
Of course, it\’s repeating itself in more ways than one. One of the events that many Senators cited as one of the reasons they voted against cloture the last time around for this immigration bill was that they wrote it behind closed doors and bypassed the committee process that most bills have to pass.
So what are this time around??? Why they are replacing the old bill (which itself was a replacement of an old bill) with the new bill, which they wrote behind closed doors, so that it doesn\’t have to go through the committee process.
Why pretty stupid huh? But surely they learned from last time, at the very least they\’ll allow Senators to read it and then improve it with amendments right? Especially since that was another reason many Senators rejected it?
Nope, this time they are using never before invoked Senate procedures to keep the amendments allowed to a bare minimum. And the list of \”approved\” amendments is so secretive that most Senators haven\’t even seen it, even though racist groups like La Raza have.
Ok, so we know our Senators are bunch of clueless, out-of-touch jackasses, now onto new business. Surely they would address the fact that the public absolutely hates this bill because of all the horrible stuff in it, such as amnesty for illegals.
Well I wouldn\’t put your money on it. Remember the same people re-writing it are the same people that came up with the last piece of shit. And remember, that the same people are the ones that planned to remove all the amendment in conference. And remember, these are the same people who are dancing on President Bush\’s strings, which are all labeled amnesty.
It remains to be seen for sure what form this \”new\” bill takes, assuming it isn\’t just the \”old\” bill without the amendments that were passed last time. And it remains to be seen if there is actually 60 votes for cloture but apparently Senate leaders thinks there is.
However, alot can change if they feel public pressure, especially those Senators who are up for re-election. A great example of this is what just happened in the House. Rep. Tancredo put forth an amendment to withhold federal emergency services funding from \”sanctuary cities\”. It\’s an amendment he\’s proposed seven times before and it\’s always been defeated. But the House, which is perpetually up for re-election has read the public mood and passed it, shocking critics and supporters alike. It\’s time to knock some sense into our Senators…which means pick up your phones and start calling.
