I’m getting a little sick of this cycle we seem to be stuck in. We’ll have to put up with the Mainstrea Media/Dinosaur Media/etc telling us how accurate and reliable they are. We’ll hear about how their complex system of editors provides for more accurate news. Certainly more accurate that any blogger could provide. We’ll hear about how journalists have taken all sorts of journalism courses and have experience in their field on how to report.

But then every couple months the blogosphere has to break another story about how yet ANOTHER journalist has been caught just making shit up, or doctoring photos, or forging documents, or whatever. The media organization in question pretends that they are right until the evidence is overwhelming. They give a half-hearted apology buried on page 794 and if we’re lucky they fire the person responsible. Then they make gradious claims of how they are going to put more checks in place to prevent this from ever happening again even though the checks they added last time didn’t work either.

Then they keep quiet for a couple weeks and then the cycle repeats.

At what point do people just give up pretending to be surprised or claim it’s a big deal, when it’s quite obvious this is just how that industry works?? Make stuff up and hope you don’t get caught. Apologize if you do, snicker uncontrollably if you don’t. Repeat.

And here I thought it was only the weatherman lying his ass off to me every newscast.
