Ok I’ll be live blogging the president’s speech tonite. I’ve already explained what I expect to hear and what he should say. And because of that I have to say this right off the bat before the speech. I voted for Bush twice. I contributed money to his campaigns and do think he’s done a good job overall. I would love to support him, and still do on my issues, but on this one he’s dead wrong. Not only is his plan the wrong one, it’s a political disaster. And for that reason I have to be honest.

President’s speech begins in 5 minutes…I gotta surround my TV in bubble wrap so it survives the evening.

Here it goes…

Ok it’s not your fault, I get it. So far a big disclaimer.

“We’re a nation of laws and we must enforce our laws” – Then why haven’t you?

Five clear objectives

1) Must secure borders….hitting that first, good move to win over conservatives.

The increases you’ve reigned over aren’t even close to what’s necessary. Sent home over 6 million?? What about the other 12??

An additional 6000?? Not even close to what is necessary. So far it’s a joke.

Oh crap….just a virtual border. And so begins the downward spiral

Using the National Guard…only 6000?? Yup it’s all just a joke. He’s humoring us. Pisses me off that he’s doing it with a straight face.

Aaaaah, Mexico is our friend. Bushit.

2) Enforcing border control policies.

Actually deporting the ones we catch…wow, what a novel idea.

“Catch and release is unacceptable”…good finally. Building more beds and cutting down legal process. Great, what took you 6 years?

If people know they’ll be sent home if caught?? They don’t though. They know it’s only a hollow threat. Take the handcuffs off the INS and ICE

Temporary Worker program….here it comes

“Jobs Americans are not doing”….not “won’t” do….just “aren’t”

3) Holding employers accountable.

Better system….yeah yeah yeah….or you could just unleash the INS and ICE.

“Making it harder for them to find work”…right idea, wrong method

4) Current illegals

“I oppose amnesty”….yeah right…

“cannot deport all them”…you have never even tried.

“they have to pay a meaningful penalty for breaking the law”….so now you can buy citizenship…not earn it.

“What I have described is not amnesty”" Yes it is!!!!! You claim you’ll let those without a record become citizens…they ALL have records, because they are all by definition ILLEGAL!!!

5) Honor tradition of melting pot

Assimilation…good.

“respect for the flag we fly”….like not flying Mexico’s flag over the US’s

“speaking the english language”….like not singing the national anthem in Spanish.

Needs to be a comprehensive bill, or none will be solved. If you don’t do enforcement FIRST, nothing else is worth it.

Oh goody….a story to pull our heartstrings. Standard ploy. I’m not convinced.

I give Bush an F

Told us almost nothing new….6K National Guard troops does not warrant a primetime speech from the Oval Office. He did nothing to win over conservatives who want him to get serious. He proposed nothing that will even begin to solve the problem.
