A Government Of The People, By The People, Against The People??

May 10th, 2006 by Kevin

This is absolutely outrageous. Apparently the US Border Patrol is now working FOR Mexico

While Minuteman civilian patrols are keeping an eye out for illegal border crossers, the U.S. Border Patrol is keeping an eye out for Minutemen — and telling the Mexican government where they are.

According to three documents on the Mexican Secretary of Foreign Relations Web site, the U.S. Border Patrol is to notify the Mexican government as to the location of Minutemen and other civilian border patrol groups when they participate in apprehending illegal immigrants — and if and when violence is used against border crossers.

A U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman confirmed the notification process, describing it as a standard procedure meant to reassure the Mexican government that migrants\’ rights are being observed.

So OUR government is reporting on the activities of OUR citizens to a foreign government?? What happened to our government of the people, by the people, FOR the people??? Considering that the Mexican military has made a habit of making armed hostile intrusions into US territory isn\’t telling the Mexican military where to find Minutemen just a tad bit dangerous. In fact, one could make the case that they are intentionally endangering the lives of and trying to intimidate the Minutemen.

And for those of you skeptics that claim the Border Patrol might just be trying to prevent an international incident, they are also letting Mexico know about the political activity of the Minuteman in non-border states.

Now granted the Border Patrol is denying all this but it certainly seems to jive with the administrations viewpoint of the minutemen as vigilantes and the paper did cite the Border Patrol spokesman in their original story. Plus the paper is standing by their story

Citing interviews with Border Patrol agents and documents on a Mexican government Web site, the newspaper reported agents notify Mexican authorities when members of civilian groups such as the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps apprehend or allegedly use violence against border crossers.

[…]

The report also cited three documents on the Web site of the Mexican Secretary of Foreign Relations that say Mexican consulates are in close contact with Border Patrol officials regarding the safety of border crossers who have been stopped by civilian groups.

[…]

T.J. Bonner, president of the Border Patrol agents\’ union, said members have long complained that the Mexican government has undue influence over U.S. enforcement policies.

[…]

The Daily Bulletin\’s managing editor, Jeff Keating, said Tuesday the newspaper stands by its story.

Sounds like the paper has it\’s sources lined up…let\’s see how this pans out over the next couple days.

However, if this all turns out to be true this is absolutely incredible. Having this administration ignore the public\’s opinion on illegal immigration is one thing. To actively work against them is another thing entirely. A government actively working against the wishes of it\’s citizens is no longer the citizen\’s government.

If this is all true, any politician with an ounce of political self-preservation would do well to publicly denounce this practice by the Border Patrol. In fact, any Republican running for an office at the federal level that doesn\’t publicly come out against this officially loses my vote. And as things stand at the time of this post, looks like I get to stay home on Election Day. So far it appears only Rep Tom Tancredo has the balls to stand up on this issue.

Senators Coleman and Dayton, Representative Kline and Senator-hopeful Mark Kennedy you\’ve all already received an email from me. I eagerly await your reply.
