PropagandaHype Failed?? Simple, Just Re-Hype It!!

September 26th, 2005 by Kevin

It has pretty much become common knowledge that much of the hype and sensational reporting of massive death in New Orleans was false. Not only false but grossly over-exaggerated.

Facing that reality, Norwegianity has come up with a new tactic. Re-Hype it! Which apparently resulted in today’s post entitled “Many Katrina victims had gunshot wounds!“.

Many??? Really. Must not have read the source too well.

Most of the dead had drowned, Roper said. Others had died of dehydration, probably caused by abandonment, he said.

Well we know “most” did not die by gunshot….much less a gunshot to the head or back. So how much is “many”?? How can such a statement be made?? Well it apparently comes from this

He was surprised by the number of homicides — people with gunshot wounds to their heads and backs.

Which still fails to answer the question of “how much is many??”. Certainly no number is given or even hinted at. Simply somebody was surprised by the number. Well, speaking for myself, I would be surprised by one person shot in the head or back. So given the data, “many” could conceivably be “one”.

This is a single source, with no direct quote or number cited. We’ve seen nothing to confirm it. And we know “many” of the hype and rumors of mass-death/murder/rape/cannibalism/ninjas/deck-stacking/etc were mostly false.

So knowing all that, and with absolutely no data to support your claim, how can one claim any integrity and still use such a misleading title??

Well, having read past posts on Norwegianity, I suspect that as usual, sensational exaggerated propaganda was deemed more valuable that reality. Feel free to prove me wrong.

NOTE : As a followup to my previous post, don’t miss tomorrow’s post entitled “Cindy Sheehan has a HUGE criminal history!!”.

UPDATE : Response from Norweginity

Locally, I’m being accused of over-exaggerating the death toll. Sorry, I don’t mean to be asking questions during a time of plunging polls and resubmerged evidence.

The problem isn’t you posing of questions, nor does plunging polls have anything to do with it. It’s that fact that you knowingly make misleading statements without any measure of truth whatsoever. And you can’t claim “resubmerged evidence” since you have NO evidence whatsoever.

Basically as usually you completely missed the point and would prefer to stick to talking points.

Sheehan Arrested

September 26th, 2005 by Kevin

Despite being warned three times by officers that she was breaking the law, Cindy Sheehan continued to camp out in front of the White House.

As a result, Sheehan was arrested, and has written about her adventures on HuffPo. Including this little tidbit

The fine for “demonstrating without a permit” is $75.00. I am certain that I won’t pay it. My court date is November 16th. Any lawyers out there want to help me challenge an unconstitutional law??

That, of course, should be of no surprise since she has already declared that she will not pay her taxes.

Which makes one wonder, if there is ANY law she agrees with or is willing to follow??

No Need For Civil Unions For One Penguin

September 26th, 2005 by Kevin

Awhile back I wrote about gay penguins in Germany and the outrage the eternally offended gay rights crowd had over attempts to turn them straight.

Turns out the zoo-keepers maybe just didn’t know their type. Perhaps like Silo, a gay penguin in New York, he didn’t want a “female seductress”, he was more into the “girl next door variety”.

Silo has left his gay lover Roy for a new female neighbor named Scrappy. Roy has been left to raise their two offspring by himself, an adopted chick and….a rock (heh, I just write this crap, don’t ask me).

No word on who wears the pantstux in this relationship (oh quiet, you’re just jealous you didn’t think of that line).

Wedding invitations to be issued shortly. Instead of gifts, the happy couple would prefer you send fish.

MOB Blogroll

September 26th, 2005 by Kevin

Ok that’s it. Everyone take a good look on my right sidebar where it says “Minnesota Organziation of Bloggers” and then possibly a list of MOB bloggers (depending on if the planets line up). Because pretty soon it’s going to be gone. To be replaced with something saying “Minnesota Organziation of Bloggers” and then followed by links to MOB bloggers.

The difference being I’m not relying on BlogRolling anymore. It’s down as much as it’s up, and it’s been down for quite awhile lately. Plus it slows up the load of my page so much it’s barely worth it. So really I’m waiting for it to be back up so I can copy the content and host it locally.

The difference being that I won’t automatically be listing new MOB members anymore. I’ll get around to it whenever my procrastination allows….or however long it takes to receive death threatsfan mail.

NOTE: Alliance Blogroll (graciously hosted by TruthLaidBear) you are on notice. You’re next!

Rita vs Katrina

September 25th, 2005 by Kevin

Hmmm, two big hurricanes. Two amazingly different results

Mass looting vs minimal isolated looting resulting in arrests
Ten thousandHundreds of deaths vs 2 deaths (so far)
Mass panic vs annoying inconveniences
Lawlessness vs relative peace

Damn, now what would explain the differences???

I mean in Texas we had state and local officials cooperating to organize a mass evacuation including using local resources available to them. They had a plan, they followed it the best they could, and other than a traffic jam, Texas appears to have weathered the storm pretty well.

In Louisana, we had state and local officials bickering until the last minute at which point they united just long enough to blame the feds for not recognizing their incompetence fast enough to save their people. Cue the crying and screaming for help. They had a plan, it was ignored. They had resources, they were left to soak.

There has to be a difference there….but hell if I can spot it. Damn it, I hate when that happens.

I guess it’s one of those things we’ll never know. Ranks right up there with who won the 2000 election and who killed OJ’s wife. Another eternal mystery to add to the books.

Keegans Win!!

September 24th, 2005 by Kevin

That’s right, yours truly was part of the winning team at Keegan’s. Now I admit, there may be some dispute as far as who the winner was.

Technically Mitch Berg’s team was the winner with 16 points. However, since they had (depending on the time) between 6-8 players on their team, I declare them disqualified. Even the Fraters will back me up here.

So the combined efforts of Andy, Tony and Martin and myself vanquish everyone with a score of 15. And to think, we were afraid to hand ours in.

Rule of Law

September 21st, 2005 by Kevin

Mitch Berg lists the various laws he’s contributed to the world such as

Berg’s First Law of Liberal Iraq Commentary - “No liberal commentator is capable of addressing more than one of the President’s justifications for the War in Iraq at a time; to do so would introduce a context in which their argument can not survive”

He challenged people to post their own laws they have contributed in his comments.

Well dammit, if I’m gonna write something to take up space it’s gonna be on my blog where I can get credit for the stupid crap that my fingers type.

So here we go. Here are the “laws” I’ve contributed. And by contributed I mean never actually stated out loud but have vaguely been aware of the reality of.

Ecker’s First Law of Life : If your day is going well, it’s probably still morning

Ecker’s Second Law of Personal Habits : Die Happy or Die Healthy

Ecker’s Third Law of Planning : Every plan becomes obsolete the moment you attempt to put it in motion

Ecker’s Fourth Law of Beer Supply : 4 beers times 6 guys equals 11 cases.

Ecker’s Fifth Law of Governmental Decision Making : If you give a government agency two choices, one being obviously correct and another being insanely wrong, the second will be chosen

Ecker’s Sixth Law of Technology : If you aren’t speaking in acronyms, you can’t possibly fully understand the concept.

Ecker’s Seventh Law of Safety-Critical Systems : There is never enough redundancy

Ecker’s Eighth Law of Home Improvement : Every project you undertakes will grow to about 20% more than what you can afford.

Ecker’s Ninth Law of Home Improvement : No matter how simple the project, it will grow to the point that a permit is required.
Example : Changing a lightbulb turns into a third stall addition to the garage.

Ecker’s Tenth Law of Computers : Whenever something is 95% complete, your computer will enter a time warp allowing the final 5% to take longer to complete than the preceding 95%.

Ecker’s Eleventh Law on People : It’s always the quiet ones who have a score of frozen corpses in their freezer.

And then plus the guys I hunt with have come up with a couple:

The MN Militia’s First Law of Hunting : A cock in the hand, is worth two in the bush.
Note: A cock is another term for a male pheasant.

The MN Militia’s Second Law on Ammo : It is physically impossible to carry too much ammo.

Beat that!

Wild vs Sabres Recap

September 20th, 2005 by Kevin

Game was awesome. A 6-3 win for the Wild….even though the Sabres were up 3-0 after the first. Plus the Wild won the practice shootout that followed 2-0.

If the scores for the preseason games are any indication, these new rules bode well for increased scoring this year. And it certainly seems as if things moved alot faster. Although I would be a big fan of moving the goals farther back, still too much room for shenanigans behind the net.

Hometown Gopher Thomas Vanek returned to Minnesota as part of the Buffalo Sabres. His performance tonite was less than stellar. His attempt in the shootout was pitiful.

Daigle had an awesome game, proving once again why he’s my favorite. Although he totally botched his penalty shot. But made up for it by assisting on about 20 of the 6 goals the Wild scored.

Mikko Koivu, I’ve been waiting years to see this kid play. Wow, I’m impressed. Good speed. Puck handling looked pretty good. Agility, not bad…not great, but certainly on par. Definitely needs more icetime…I got the impression he knew what he was supposed to do and made stellar attempts but was about a half-second too late in exploiting the window of oppurtunity. Could be nervousness, could be the speed of the game, whatever. With time this kid is gonna go far. Would be interesting to have him play on the same line as Gaborik. These two paired could do well.

Dupuis finally woke up from whatever hockey hell he’s been living in. Finally. Yes, I’m still bitter, jerkstore.

Benoit Pouliot has got heart and a passion for his game. He doesn’t quite have the skills to match but he’s fun to watch. I first noticed him when he tried, and mostly succeeded, in throwing a major check on a rather large Buffalo player (I missed who). Not so impressive huh?? Keep in mind Pouliot weighs 179 and it 6-3. Beanpole is the word you are looking for. Oh and he’s just shy of 19 years old. Would really like to see this guy succeed.

Note to Wanvig…you are not big enough to start fights. End of Lesson.

Overall good times. Need to figure out where everything is in the arena again. I found the beer…that’s about as far as I got.
