Humor : Young Nun

March 25th, 2005 by Kevin

A young Nun who worked for a local home health care agency was out making her runs when she ran out of gas. As luck would have it there was a gas station just one block away. She walked to the station to borrow a can with enough gas to start the car and drive to the station for a fill up. The attendant regretfully told her that the only gas can he owned had just been loaned out, but if she would care to wait he was sure it would be back shortly. Since the nun was on the way to see a patient she decided not to wait and walked back to her car.

After looking through her car for something to carry to the station to fill with gas, she spotted a bedpan she was taking to the patient. Always resourceful, she carried it to the station, filled it with gasoline, and carried it back to her car. As she was pouring the gas into the tank of her car two men watched her from across the street. One of them turned to the other and said:

“I know that it is said that Jesus turned Water into Wine, but if that car starts, I’ll become a Catholic for the rest off my life!”

Humor : Parking the Dog

March 25th, 2005 by Kevin

I pulled into a crowded parking lot and rolled down the car windows to make sure my Labrador retriever had fresh air. She was stretched out on the back seat, and I wanted to impress upon her that she must remain there I walked to the curb backward, pointing my finger at the car and saying emphatically, “Now you stay. Do you hear me? Stay!”

The driver of a nearby car gave me a startled look. “I don’t know about you, lady,” he said incredulously. “But I usually just put my car in park.”

AWOL from Keegans

March 25th, 2005 by Kevin

Well I missed Keegans tonite…tis a shame. Most definitely a shame…because apparently I already have a reputation in the MOB. For better or worse. It seems I am no longer trusted with my fellow bloggers daughters. I have no idea why that would be….honestly.

[My best attempt at looking innocent and failing miserably]

Ok so I can’t be trusted with your daughter. But I can be trusted with…well, no…um, how about…no….well. Shit, ok, my lawyer will get back to you on that one.

In my defense, Cathy has determined I’m very innocent looking. That has to count for something!!!

Ok we’ll compromise. I owe your daughter a beer and you owe me an apology.

Settled?

Right.

If it makes you feel any better I had a good reason for missing Keegans tonite. I had a bit of a date. I figured you guys will be there any time. Had I known Night Writers daugher would have been there…I might have had to show up just out of spite. :)

Good news in Iraq

March 23rd, 2005 by Kevin

First regular Iraqis kick ass and take names in their fight against insurgents

Then Iraqi troops (supported by US troops) raze a insurgent base.

Then Iraqis begin to actively kick out foreigners who are illegally in their country.

Those that that establishing a free country in the Mid-East need to sit up and take notice. The Iraqis have realized this is for real. And slowly they are developing the ability to take control of things themselves.

Certainly the elections were a very real turning point. But it certainly seems like the Iraqis are starting to prepare themselves to take over for real. And when a people have control over their own destiny history has shown that great things can happen. And a region like the Mid-East could stand a few great things happening to it.

Still think liberating them was a bad idea?

PSA: Sex Offenders

March 23rd, 2005 by Kevin

Sandy at the MAWB Squad comments on the fact that we’ve heard of yet another case of known sex offenders kidnapping, assualting and killing another child.

She does some research to find out if any sex offenders live near her. Apparently one does…2 houses away. Which sucks…obviously. Of course, Sandy I’m also wondering why you don’t know your neighbors well enough to already know that but that is besides the point. Two fucking houses away.

I did a little research…found out I have a level 3 less than a mile from me (as the crow flies). Luckily just that one. I don’t have kids (that I know of) but a child is a child is a child.

Read her post…she’s got information on how you can looking up sex offenders for Minnesota or Wisconsin…and how you can find out if your state requires registration.

Humor: No Sex Tonite…

March 23rd, 2005 by Kevin

For the record, I didn’t write this…and normally I’d just post a link but I have no idea how the archiving for the message board where it orginally appeared works. So to preserve it, here it is.

….And this is one of the funniest things I’ve read…

Flying the Friendly Iraqi Skies

March 22nd, 2005 by Kevin

Awhile back I wrote how being sent to work in Baghdad was now out of the question since my company did not win the contract we were competing for. Our competitor, Raytheon, won the rights to install a Air Traffic Control system in Baghdad, Iraq.

Then today I noticed this news article at least partially about that project:

Iraq’s interim government is refusing to make payments on some contracts with foreign companies including Raytheon Co. and A.P. Moeller-Maersk A/S because they overcharged or failed to deliver everything they promised, an official said.

[…]

Atta, 63 and a 30-year veteran at the ministry, said Raytheon hasn’t delivered an air-traffic control system to Baghdad airport, and the government is withholding a $19 million payment. James Fetig, a spokesman for the Waltham, Massachusetts- based defense contractor, declined to comment on the matter.

I informed my boss, who forwarded it to corporate where inquiries are being made with the appropriate government agencies.

Who knows what the future will bring??

And yes this is something I am hopeful for. I had volunteered for it a year ago, and I will again if it comes up. I stand by my original reasons. Will keep you posted.

Terri Shiavo…my one and only post

March 22nd, 2005 by Kevin

Ok I haven’t posted on Terri Shiavo for a reason…several reasons in fact. They include:

  • It’s a hugely complex case that is damn near impossible to cover in even a few posts.
  • I know what I believe, but why I believe that I haven’t sat down and thought about enough to defend in a post.
  • I’m sick of fucking hearing about it constantly. I hate to sound harsh and insensitive, and believe me that’s not it. It’s just that I’ve heard and read nothing but Shiavo for the past month.
  • I don’t think we still have all the details, and I don’t think you do either. HOWEVER, if I were going to write a post it would be this post by Bill Hobbs. It about sums up my views on it….damn near perfectly actually. Thanks Hobbs!

I guess I would have to add one point. I’m not going to judge Michael Schiavo. I’m not going to villianize him. And I’m not going to claim how evil he is. I don’t necessarily agree with what he’s doing but to be honest I find myself feeling the need to give him the benefit of the doubt. It would have been so easy for him to just walk away. He has every reason to. He’s been villianized in the media. He’s been offered 10 million to just wake away. He’s got people willing to take over for him. He’s got a new woman and family waiting. Yet he stays, and sticks to his guard. And why? To be honest the only reason, I can think of is he honestly believes he is fulfilling some sacred vow. Now whether he is or not, or if it’s right, or if he’s been a complete ass this whole time, or the method of killing Terri is cruel or not, or [insert your comment here], I’m not going to debate with you. You undoubtably have a good point and you are probably right, and I probably agree with you. But I still am stuck with the fact that he’s had every oppurtunity/reason to walk away and hasn’t. There is a huge chasm of difference between intentions and actions. That’s that. That will be the only post I will make about this situation. It’s not the typical conservative response, but I am decidedly not the typical conservative. If you really feel the need to read more opinions go visit Doug here. He’s been writing on a fairly regular basis. And even if I don’t agree with him 100%, he’s obviously put alot of thought into them and his arguments are well written.

WARNING: If I get too many people bitching in the comments, I’m shutting them down because I will not be drawn into a debate on this. I’m done with it. ….I can’t believe just writing a post has made me crabby.

Red Lake Shooting

March 22nd, 2005 by Kevin

My sorrows go out to those who have been affected by the school shooting in Red Lake. And to the shooter….go to hell.

I’ve never understood these shooting rampages. I mean can understand suicide, people get depressed and just can’t take it anymore. But if you are going to commit suicide why is it so necessary to take so many random people with you?? If you are depressed why is it that you make your last act on earth, the worst thing you could possibly do?

Who knows. I didn’t post until now because I wanted to hear more details. To try to understand.

This kid was messed up that is for certain. I think that goes without saying. But even before this shooting. I mean he is posting on Neo-Nazi sites. Seriously did he even comprehend what that meant?? Wake up kid, they hate you. You are an Indian. They want to kll you. Yet you tried to be one of them. How messed up were you?

Alot.
